Moldova does not allow Transnistria to pay for Russian gas
Moldova does not pay for gas consumed by Transnistria.
President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Moldova does not pay for Transnistria, they are deceiving their own citizens. Moldova does not pay a single cent for Transnistria. The debt is accumulating, and it relates to Transnistria. I have already said more than once that the gas consumed by Pridnestrovian legal entities and individuals falls on Pridnestrovie. And we are ready with Gazprom to consider a payment option. But in order to pay this debt to Gazprom, direct contractual relations are necessary,” Krasnoselsky said.
According to him, he sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilitsa with a request to provide a license for the relevant legal relations.
“But there is no answer. And in fact, there is a refusal to these legal relations. Therefore, here Moldova again acts in two ways. First, they don’t want to give us independence so that we ourselves pay for Russian gas. And secondly, they say that this debt is not ours. But it is clear that it is not yours, but then give us the opportunity to pay. Do not give. The question again hangs in the air,” Krasnoselsky said.
He stated that Transnistria is working to create an alternative company that will supply gas, but it will also have to obtain a license from Moldova.
“Either give independence to Pridnestrovie in implementing the gas issue, or not give it. But then pay for it yourself, as I understand it. In general, the ball is in the Moldovan side, let them make their own decisions,” Krasnoselsky summed up.
Chairman of the Board of JSC Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban considers it unfair that residents of Transnistria pay 11 times less for gas than residents of Moldova.
“This is wrong and unfair. There are plans to resolve these debts and this situation. All this has been there since 2007. I think we'll get to that point, but we have to split the contract once we split the debt. Those who have not paid should do so. Tiraspol must take on these debts; they have assets and can pay with their property,” Cheban said on JurnalTV.
According to the head of Moldovagaz, these problems can be resolved when the Transnistrian dispute is resolved at the political level.
“We must have a very pragmatic vision on this issue. We need to talk to Gazprom as well. All these problems can only be solved if we have a political solution to this dispute. This is not only the problem of Moldovagz in the current situation,” concluded Ceban.
