Moldova justified its exit from the EAEU by incorrectly formalized status
Moldova's Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu believes that his country's observer status within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was improperly formalized and this mandate has expired.
He stated this today at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to observer status: Moldova is a parliamentary republic, and at the time of signing the documents, no procedures had been completed through the executive branch and parliament, and the government then gave negative feedback on these plans. On procedural issues, not everything was prepared within the necessary steps.
Regarding the fact that Moldova’s representative to the EAEU was recalled, his mandate and term have expired, and therefore, to be honest, we are trying to see what the legal part of this participation as an observer is, which was not formalized completely correctly at the final stages,” - Popescu said.
He believes that Moldova is quite capable of building ties in the trade and economic sphere with Russia within the CIS.
“Nica Popescu is fussing. Moldova received observer status at the EAEU. It was confirmed by all members of the EAEU. Our representatives participated in meetings of the EAEU commission. And when PAS (the party of Moldovan President Mai Sandu - ed.) came to power, they immediately recalled the representative and doubted the legality of the status.
And the status itself is already a matter of philosophy for them and God knows what. Gentlemen, the price of gas at $450 instead of $125 is not a philosophy. As well as tens of tons of rotting apples... This is already a question of the country’s survival. This is a question of being, not consciousness,” commented member of the Moldovan Parliament Bogdan Tsydrea on his Telegram channel on the minister’s evasive answer.
