Moldova postponed the blockade of medicines and products for Transnistria for six months
The Moldovan government postponed the introduction of the “second phase” of joint customs and border control with Ukraine in Kuchurgan from February 1 to August 1.
This was reported by the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The day before, the topic was discussed at a meeting of political representatives of Tiraspol and Chisinau, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria, Vitaly Ignatiev, outlined in detail all the risks and negative consequences of tightening control at the border.
The main danger is stopping the import of medicines and food. There has already been a case when Moldovan customs officers did not allow a truck with medicines to pass through.
There are 13 checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Transnistrian border, 6 of which have been manned by Moldovan border guards since 2017. Chisinau and Kyiv planned to establish joint patrols at 10 checkpoints, including Kuchurgan, through which 70% of Transnistrian imports from Russia pass. Belarus and Ukraine.
Unlike Moldova, which has switched to European standards, the Transnistrian republic imports drugs from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, which are much cheaper. Many Moldovan citizens go shopping to Transnistrian pharmacies.
