Moldova abandoned the idea of joining the ban of a number of Eastern European countries on the import of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture of Moldova Vladimir Bolya, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The government of Moldova is close to the people of Ukraine, we must learn to live with this situation,” Bolya justified himself on television.

Most likely, the minister’s “back” is connected with Kyiv’s threat to ban the import of any goods from Moldova, voiced by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka. And Moldovan peach producers are completely dependent on the Ukrainian market.

And so the Minister of Moldova began to assure that the volume of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine is insignificant - only 177 tons of wheat and 4 thousand tons of sunflower seeds - although Moldovan elevators allow storing about three million tons of products.

Although a few days ago Bolya said that because of Ukrainian grain, the local harvest does not leave warehouses, and the trend in the export of Moldovan grain is downward, due to logistics costs and falling prices on international exchanges.

Now the Moldovan government promises to inform farmers every two days about the volume of imports from Ukraine and provide them with additional subsidies in the amount of $5,6 million.

The Moldovan association “Power of Farmers,” which gave the government a week to introduce a ban on Ukrainian imports, believes that Minister Bolya was put under pressure by pro-Western Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The head of the association, Alexander Slusari, promised a response from farmers in the near future.

“Personally, I cannot be a spectator of the process of destruction of the class of small and medium-sized farmers in villages by offshore holdings, which is carried out against the backdrop of the insolvency of the authorities and empty promises,” Slusar wrote on social networks.

Meanwhile, grain prices in Moldova fell to half the cost. An even greater collapse in sunflower prices. Local producers are talking about at least $112 million in losses.

Moldovan expert Semyon Albu reminds that this is not the first “set-up” on the part of Ukraine. Last year, a sharp rise in diesel prices before the harvesting campaign was caused by the fact that fuel carriers in Moldova were bought up by Ukrainian oil traders.

The “cloudlessness” of our relations with Kiev is achieved mainly by ignoring Moldovan interests and inconvenient issues. The kidnapping of the Ukrainian judge Chaus on Moldovan territory has long been forgotten. The topic of the ecology of the Dniester and the threat of the river drying up due to the operation of the Dniester pumped storage power plant has disappeared from the radar. The media also quickly hushed up the situation with the partial flooding of several of our villages in November last year, when our partners, apparently without notifying their Moldovan colleagues, increased the release of water at the Dniester reservoir for additional energy generation.

I remember the attempt of the SBU to organize a terrorist attack in Transnistria, and I fully admit that it took place - it is unlikely that the hitherto cautious Tiraspol would have decided to disperse an outright fake, and we have seen plenty of “subversive actions” carried out by Ukrainians.

One can imagine how ill-timed this would be for our authorities, who are preparing to host the summit of the European Political Community. In general, this is a “one-way street” where we are forced to sacrifice our interests and endure losses “for the sake of solidarity,” Albu wrote to the RTA.
