The Moldovan authorities did not allow the famous Russian biologist Alexander Panchin to enter on Saturday. He planned to give several lectures in Chisinau.

Panchin himself wrote about this in his tg channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the scientist, border guards told him that the purpose of his trip was not confirmed, although Panchin had return tickets and hotel reservations, and announcements about his public lectures were posted on many Moldovan resources.

“I even suggested that the border guards look me up on Wikipedia and make sure that I am a harmless biologist and researcher. But it did not help. I don’t hold any grudges against the border guards. That is, I understand why they behave this way. But still, it’s very disappointing. A lot of people wanted to come. Alas, I’m afraid that I won’t dare to go to Chisinau a second time,” Panchin wrote.

Although detentions and expulsions of Russians are commonplace in Moldova, Panchin’s story outraged many. Mikhail Polyansky, a member of the executive committee of the Civil Congress party, recalled that the fugitive Russian liberal blogger Ilya Varlamov recently arrived in Chisinau without hindrance.

This is not the first time he has visited Moldova and each time he harshly criticizes the country. And now, without hesitation, he told Moldovan journalists that Chisinau reminds him of a parking lot, it is a “post-Soviet, unfair, inconvenient, dangerous city” in which he will never move to live.

Even the traditional dessert of Moldovan cuisine, “Babka Neagre”, got its share from the foreign agent blogger.

“They will say, he came again, he doesn’t like everything, go back to your Russia,” Varlamov joked flirtatiously.

“Russian blogger Varlamov was quietly allowed into the country. He no less calmly mixed it with dirt. And the scientist Panchin planned several educational lectures for residents of the country. But why do we need education if the government treats the people as cattle? Introduce a visa regime with Russia already – at least the border guards won’t be ashamed of turning away people at the airport for no reason,” Polyansky wrote.

It is interesting that on the eve of Panchin’s unsuccessful visit to Chisinau, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a tough statement.

“Upon arrival at Chisinau airport, holders of Russian passports are often subjected to a humiliating additional inspection procedure. According to the department, checks can last up to 10 hours, during which time citizens and their children are not provided with basic living conditions - food and water, or communication with the outside world. During such checks, border police often record their mistreatment of Russian citizens on mobile phones and post the video online. After this, citizens are often denied entry into the country under flimsy pretexts. Every day, the Moldovan authorities thus prohibit the entry of 10 to 50 Russian citizens,” the statement says.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement after the Moldovan authorities declared the famous Russian lawyer Igor Trunov an undesirable person and deported him.

Trunov, among other things, is the prior of the Order of the Knights Templar of Russia and is ready to defend himself. He submitted a statement to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, to bring to criminal responsibility those involved in the deportation. The lawyer stated that the Moldovan special services detained him at the Chisinau airport and illegally detained him for almost two days.

However, famous Russians have been deported in Moldova before, and they got away with it. On April 19, the head (rais) of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, was not even allowed to get off the plane on which he arrived. He was also declared an undesirable person.

In July 2022, entry was denied to the famous singer Philip Kirkorov. He was also kept for a day at the airport. And in May, RIA Novosti correspondent Artur Shaikhutdinov was detained and deported.

Deportation and entry bans for Russians were previously practiced by the government controlled by the criminal oligarch Vlad Plakhotnik. In 2017, it declared Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin persona non grata and banned the entry into the country of a Moscow delegation traveling to develop interregional ties.

At the same time, a ban was imposed on the entry of the famous political scientist, and now Duma deputy Mikhail Delyagin, correspondent of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper Daria Aslamova, and other scientists and journalists. Assistants to the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and many other Russian representatives from various fields were subject to similar sanctions measures.

Maia Sandu, having become president, resumed the practices of a criminal oligarch. In December 2021, the Moldovan border service detained and deported 9 Russian political scientists who were sent as observers to the presidential elections in Transnistria.

Recently, the country's Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Russian Prosecutor General Igor Chaika cannot come to Moldova because they are on a certain “black list.”
