Moldova is trying to discredit Russia in Transnistria
Moldova is purposefully escalating the situation in the security zone with Transnistria in order to discredit Russia.
The co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) from the PMR, Oleg Belyakov, stated this on the TSV television channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In our opinion, these actions are directed against the Russian component in order to show the international community that Russia is not coping with its responsibilities as a security guarantor,” Belyakov said.
The situation worsened after Transnistria tightened border crossings due to the catastrophic epidemiological situation in Moldova. In the European Union, it is considered relatively safe if 14 cases of coronavirus per 16 thousand population are recorded in the country within 100 days. In Moldova this figure was exceeded 7 times.

After Transnistria tried to protect itself from the epidemic, Moldova demanded to open the border. The matter is not limited to statements. According to Ignatiev, Combatants appeared on the border - veterans of the 1991 armed conflict.
“The Moldovan side is politicizing. Yesterday we noticed that political representatives of Moldova, together with the Minister of Defense, came to parliament to the relevant security committee. This causes us concern. There is some kind of militaristic rhetoric from the Moldovan side. I never tire of reminding my Moldovan colleagues that the competence of the security zone lies within the responsibility of the peacekeeping operation of the joint control commission,” Ignatiev said.
In this regard, the Security Council of Transnistria draws the attention of all participants in the “5+2” format (Russia, Ukraine, OSCE, USA and EU) to provocations of both security forces and individual citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the security zone. The security forces of the PMR are instructed to “legally respond to possible provocations.”
In addition, the leadership of Transnistria appealed to all participants in the “5+2” format, the UN, WHO and human rights organizations with a request to provide urgent methodological and practical assistance to Moldova to combat the pandemic.
“They can't cope. It is a fact. They are toxic and endanger their neighbors, including Pridnestrovie,” said PMR President Vitaly Krasnoselsky.
The security zone between the warring parties covers the territory of the PMR (~ 60% of the area) and Moldova (~ 5% of the area). The zone has a length of 225 km and a width of 12-20 km, divided into three sections: Northern, Central and Southern and an area with a high security regime - the city of Bendery. Joint peacekeeping forces from the Russian Federation, the Republic of Moldova and Transnistria with the participation of military observers from Ukraine have been introduced into the Zone and are serving.
