According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Natalia German, there is an agreement with Kiev that if transit is stopped, Moldova will be able to take part of the Russian gas pumped into Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
“We have an agreement with Ukraine in case, suppose, gas supplies to Ukraine and, accordingly, to Moldova are suspended, we have the opportunity to feed ourselves for six months from the internal reserves of Ukraine, which has many gas storage capabilities in case of force majeure “said the diplomat, quoted by Mediafax and Moldnews agencies.
She noted that Chisinau has high hopes for the Ungheni-Iasi gas pipeline, which is designed to meet Moldova’s needs for natural gas from sources alternative to Russian ones, but so far this is only a project.
