Moldova again speaks of the need to withdraw Russian troops from Transnistria
Chisinau, June 30 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – The process of intensifying and modernizing the conventional arms control regime must be accompanied by the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Moldova in accordance with the commitments made by Russia at the OSCE summit in Istanbul in 1999. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Valery Chiver, speaking at the end of last week in Vienna at the annual OSCE security conference.

According to the press service of the MFAEI, he also pointed out “the need to transform the existing peacekeeping mechanism in the Transnistrian region into a civilian multinational mission with an appropriate international mandate.”
Kiver underreiterated the Republic of Moldova’s intention to participate in the modernization of the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence and Security Building Measures to increase transparency in the military field and security in the OSCE space.
Speaking about the Transnistrian settlement, the deputy minister spoke about its stagnation, and also noted the fact that “the administration of Tiraspol and the Russian Federation refuse to start a political dialogue on security.”
According to the diplomat, negotiations in the “5+2” format to resolve the conflict should be guided by the principles of “sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova when granting special status to Pridnestrovie.” The representative of the MFAEI of Moldova noted the importance of showing political will and coordinated actions of international participants in the Transnistrian settlement.
