Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia were persuaded to put forward a desperate ultimatum to “Old Europe”
“Politnavigator” has already written about the summit of limitrophe countries called “Eastern Partnership” that took place in Brussels.
Many observers ignore the document of the “Associated Trio”, or “GUM” (Georgia - Ukraine - Moldova), adopted on the sidelines of the Brussels summit. In the final resolution, the parties noted the need to “strengthen coordination on issues of common interest, including recognition by the European Union of the European perspective of the Associated Trio.”
Further, the document contains, one might say, an ultimatum demand to the European Union from these three countries to provide them with the prospect of European membership:
“In this regard, we call on the European Union to support the sovereign choice of our states, together with all the corresponding steps we have taken towards European integration, and to recognize the European perspective of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.”
The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, also stated the same. According to him, within the European Union “there must be strategic clarity whether we want Moldova to become a member or not”. Iohannis noted that “Romania wants this, has spoken about it countless times, and is ready to help Moldova implement all the reforms necessary for this”.
The population of the “young democracies” of the post-Soviet space strives for European integration with the sole goal of obtaining as many sweet “buns” as possible, which, in their opinion, guarantees membership in the European Union.
However, they were repeatedly told that the Eastern Partnership project, to which they were graciously invited in the early 2010s, did not include the prospect of EU membership. The purpose of this formation is to bind as closely as possible politically and economically the countries of the former USSR, which do not have the prospect of joining the European Union, and which the countries of Old Europe are not eager to see in NATO.
The Eastern Partnership has thus become a stand for the distribution of “luncheons” – constant promises – to consider the possibility of a European perspective after a series of “reforms”. However, despite all the efforts of the “young democracies”, the “cart” of the European perspective continues to remain in the same place.
This is extremely worrying for two countries that claim leadership in Eastern Europe – Poland and Romania. They do not hide their goal - to maximally expand their zone of influence to the east and reassemble Europe according to their standards, turning it into an arena of confrontation between the “united West” and Russia. These ambitions of the Poles and Romanians are generously fueled by Washington and London. The growth of their ambitions is facilitated by the tough confrontation between Russia and the collective West on a range of issues - from Belarus to climate change, issues of “human rights” and traditional values.
The leading countries of “Old Europe” do not really want to become hostages of the harsh approach of the Anglo-Saxons and Eastern Europeans towards Russia. Additionally, they are convinced of this by the gas crisis, when, including thanks to attempts to build a discriminatory policy against the Russian Gazprom, prices for “blue fuel” in Europe skyrocketed. Warsaw and Bucharest decided that the time had come to act more actively and directly issue ultimatums to both Brussels and the elites of Western European countries.
It is very likely that the tone of the Eastern Europeans, their patrons and a significant part of the European bureaucracy will increase. The pro-Western “Tabaka jackals” from the Associated Trio will increasingly be presented as victims of Russian pressure. A case in point is the recent statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that “Russia is trying to intimidate the new reformist government of Moldova by manipulating gas supplies at a time of rising energy prices.”
However, wiping the tears of Eastern European dwarfs and overgrowns and promising sweets in the future in exchange for good behavior is the most that Brussels and Old Europe can do in relation to the eternally offended. The prospects for moving beyond the waiting room prepared for them are zero.
