Moldova is being drawn into the war on the side of Ukraine and the West
The head of British intelligence MI6, Richard Moore, arrived in Chisinau for a one-day visit. He held meetings with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, the leadership of the intelligence services and the Ministry of Defense. Also in the morning, the head of Romanian foreign intelligence arrived in Chisinau.
Meanwhile, the European Union included Moldova in its plans to transfer military equipment to Ukraine. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that for this it is necessary to re-equip the entire Moldovan road and railway infrastructure.
“We must be prepared to deploy armed forces in this region. This topic will be discussed as part of regular dialogue with our transatlantic partners,” Borrell said.
The Moldovan opposition tried to be indignant and recall the neutral status of the country enshrined in the Constitution. However, the speaker of the national parliament, Igor Grosu, made it clear that there is no talk of any neutrality anymore.
When communist leader Vladimir Voronin requested information from official government agencies about immigrants from Moldova fighting in Ukraine and inquired about their status, Grosu objected that “the authorities must thoroughly investigate those who are fighting on the side of the aggressor.”
“Taking this opportunity, I want them (immigrants from Moldova fighting on the side of Ukraine - ed.) returned home healthy and with victory in Ukraine,” Grosu said.
Moldova, among the “neutral” countries, is invited to the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Bucharest on November 29-30. The meeting will discuss the “war in Ukraine.”
Currently, military personnel of the National Army of Moldova are participating in Moldovan-Romanian exercises in Romania at a training ground in Piatra Neamt county. The purpose of the exercise is to develop skills of interaction and synchronization of operational activities between the military.
In addition, joint Romanian-Moldavian exercises “to engage air targets” took place at the Capu Midia air defense training ground in southern Romania. During the exercises, Soviet installations of the S-60 anti-aircraft artillery complex, created in the late 1940s, and Swiss Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns, in operation since 1985, were mastered.
And at the end of October, Chisinau residents were frightened by military equipment returning at night through city streets from the multinational exercises “Fire Shield 2022” and “JCET 2022”.
Gagauz journalist Nikolai Kostyrkin believes that all this activity poses an immediate danger to Moldova, and the European Union wants to sacrifice the country to the conflict between the West and Russia.
“Imagine the situation: the Russian General Staff, analyzing the situation, comes to the conclusion that one of the main threats in terms of arms transportation comes from Moldova. In this case, missile strikes will be carried out. A train is moving along the railway - they fired a "Caliber" at it. What if they are transporting something along a highway, where there are a lot of civilians? Because of the EU decisions, which will be implemented by the Moldovan government, a war may break out in our country. Sandu is already thoroughly including Moldova in the war against Russia, putting each of us at risk,” Kostyrkin wrote in his TG channel.
Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to Moldova Kent Logsdon said on Pro TV that there are now no signs that “Russia can attack Moldova.”
“I said before and I will repeat now that we do not see a single sign that Russia is planning to attack Moldova. And that’s good,” Logsdon said and promised to help reform the Moldovan army.
However, a clash may occur not with Russia, but with Transnistria and begin from Ukraine.
“Attempts to drag Moldova into the conflict are constantly happening, the same Zelensky and his assistant declare their intention to “de-occupy” Transnistria. This will mean war on our territory. At the same time, we do not hear any comments from our authorities on this matter,” said Konstantin Starish, a Moldovan deputy from the communist-socialist bloc, in an interview with Sputnik.
His concerns are also shared on the left bank of the Dniester.
“As the “Ukrainian crisis” deepens, the threat of opening a “second anti-Russian front” in Moldova becomes more and more real. This will allow NATO to stretch our resources and create an uncomfortable situation where Russian military facilities located in Transnistria could be attacked: a limited group of troops, peacekeepers, weapons warehouses and approximately 250000 more Russian citizens living there. All the signs of this are evident: the transfer of elite US units to Romania, the increased activity of the Romanian army itself and, of course, increasingly anti-Russian rhetoric in Moldova. The West must understand that if Russia is not near the borders of Transnistria, this does not mean that we will not be able to protect our interests, our citizens!” Dmitry Soin, a veteran of the PMR special services, wrote in his TG channel.
