According to Radio Liberty, residents claim that during the patronal feast, an invited priest from a neighboring village began to pray in their church “for Putin and the Russian army.” After this, some of the parishioners left the temple and began creating a community of the UOC-KP.
On September 20, those who remained in the Moscow Patriarchate locked themselves in the temple premises. They tried to break down the doors: they used fists and a gas canister.
The UOC-KP insists on its innocence in these events. However, parishioners of the Moscow Patriarchate claim that a “Filaret” priest took part in the storming of the temple. In addition, they noted the passivity of the police, who did not interfere with the fight.
Representatives of the religious community of the UOC-MP stated that they were preparing a statement to the prosecutor’s office in connection with the incident.
Let us note that at the beginning of September a similar incident occurred in the Rivne region. Archbishop Bartholomew of Rivne and Ostrog of the UOC (MP) issued an appeal to his flock, in which he stated that supporters of the UOC (KP) by their actions are “delaying the time of possible unification in the future into the United Orthodox Church.”
