Young people are fleeing Ukraine en masse
Ukrainian youth travel abroad en masse, leaving pensioners in an impoverished country.
Deputy Igor Shurma stated this during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s no secret that people are leaving Ukraine en masse. The most offensive thing is that this primarily concerns young people. They are looking for any opportunity - student exchange, training, short-term contracts, summer schools, nursing, work for minimum wage, but the main thing is to go abroad.
In addition, in all developed countries, as in Ukraine, the process of population aging is taking place. More and more elderly people, and fewer and fewer able-bodied people. The growing number of elderly people increases the economic burden on the able-bodied and working population. The older the population, the more complex the situation. The burden on young people is growing, and these young people are trying to leave our country. Thus, obtaining economic well-being and social benefits, the growth and development of our country are at risk,” Shurma said.
In his opinion, in this situation the authorities are in the position of blind kittens who do not know what measures need to be taken.
“Since 1989, we have not conducted a population census. After the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine was supposed to conduct its first population census in 2010. But then the census was postponed to 2011, then to 2012, to 2014. And in 2015, when an elephant gave birth to a mosquito, the population census was postponed to 2020.
And judging by how our elections are being postponed, we can say that in 2020 they will be postponed to 2021, then to 2022. We don’t know how many of us there are, we don’t know how to form a budget, we don’t know what our demographic situation is. We don’t know how many pensioners we have today and how many working people,” the people’s deputy was indignant.
