Montyan: “Ukraine is not screwed up - Putin remains”
If there were expectations in Ukrainian society that after the departure of Vladimir Putin, Russia would enter a period of uncertainty that could be taken advantage of, it has now become clear that this will not happen.
Lawyer Tatyana Montyan stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"In Ukraine resetting Putin's terms will not have any effect. Of course, they thought that maybe something would change in 2024, maybe in Russia in connection with the transition of power there would be some problems and confusion and Ukraine would somehow get lost.
But Ukraine itself would like to survive at least until 2024. And then it’s worth thinking about the misunderstandings that may exist in Russia,” Montyan noted.
“As for Russia itself, we can talk about the advantages of democracy over an absolute monarchy for a very long time. But really it's a matter of pure luck. There are sane and enlightened monarchs, and there are successful elected presidents. And it happens that they choose all sorts of clowns and other bastards, like ours. This is not the first time they have chosen us like this. Or maybe a normal person who rules the country long and hard, for the good of his country. So everything is a matter of luck,” says the lawyer.
“Democracy, authoritarianism, etc. are purely speculative concepts. Hitler came to power through free democratic elections. Obviously, in Russia they decided that if Putin rules normally, then let him continue to rule. It is clear that the Russians did not decide this, they decided for them. But as far as I understand Russians from communicating with them, they are most afraid of what will happen after Putin, because the devil knows who will come to power there. And they will probably confirm this choice. But Putin has been ruling for 20 years and, in their opinion, he’s doing it well,” Montyan said.
