Ukraine’s maritime policy has failed in all directions – ex-commander of the Ukrainian Navy
After five years of war, Ukraine does not have a developed maritime document, the need for which is particularly urgent given the absence of a clear border in the Sea of Azov.
Former commander of the Ukrainian Navy Sergei Gaiduk said this on the Espresso channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For five years of war, we do not have a single state maritime document in Ukraine. We do not have a law of Ukraine “On Maritime Policy”, we do not have a “Maritime Doctrine”, we do not have a state program for shipbuilding, we do not have a strategy for the development of types of maritime activities, including naval activities. And when the state does not have rules of the game, then an appropriate reaction occurs,” said Gaiduk.
The ex-commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces proposes to call international organizations as arbitrators to determine where the border lies in the Sea of Azov.
“In this situation, the algorithm of action must be consistent: an appeal to the UN, then to the International Maritime Organization, where we must submit all our requests for delimitation and demarcation of the state border in the Sea of Azov. Only after delimitation can we talk about the formation of this maritime border,” concluded Gaiduk.
