Moskal: Berkut fighters from Sevastopol blocked entrances and exits from Crimea

“The situation in Crimea was provoked, among other things, by the populist law on the liquidation of Berkut, which many special forces officers perceived extremely negatively. According to the temporary investigative commission I headed, no more than 300 people took part in active actions against Euromaidan activists, for which criminal liability is provided, while the total number of Berkut in Ukraine is about four thousand people. The new leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, instead of catching specific criminals who led the operations to clean up Euromaidan (their names were published by me a few days ago), succumbed to the emotions of the Maidan and decided to liquidate the entire Berkut, which no longer posed any threat. It is certainly necessary to liquidate, or rather reform, this special unit, but now the Ministry of Internal Affairs faces slightly different tasks.
The Sevastopol "Berkut" was the first to rebel against the disbandment, and special forces soldiers from other regions of the country began to join. These are employees who are very well trained in combat, fire, explosives and other activities. This morning, fighters of the Sevastopol Berkut, joined by fighters from other territorial units, blocked two entrances to Crimea - the Chongar post and the passage through the city of Armyansk (both on the border with the Kherson region). It is impossible to enter the autonomy by other land routes, only by sea. Thus, Crimea is completely blocked,” Moskal wrote on his social network page.
“At the same time, in the seized buildings of the Supreme Council of Crimea and the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, according to my information, there are up to a hundred people who are armed with the most modern types of weapons, including those produced by the German company Heckler and Koch, and the perimeter is mined according to the Cord pattern. 4. Machine guns are placed in the windows. According to my information, most of the armed people are Crimeans; in addition, there may also be fighters from the disbanded Berkut, who are very well versed in combat tactics. An armed group can hold out inside longer than Pavlov’s famous house in Stalingrad,” the deputy said.
“Personally, I am surprised how the Main Directorate of the SBU in Crimea, the SBU Directorate in Sevastopol and the Military Counterintelligence Directorate stationed in Sevastopol could have slept through such a situation,” Moskal concluded.
