Moskal is strong in hindsight: Ukraine has angered the Hungarians of Transcarpathia
The new language law adopted during the time of Petro Poroshenko violates a number of international obligations of Ukraine and puts it at odds with neighboring countries.
This was stated on the NewsOne TV channel by ex-governor of the Transcarpathian region Gennady Moskal, who resigned after the change of power, who under Poroshenko preferred not to make loud demarches and remain in his old chair, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The conflict began on linguistic grounds. When the language law was adopted, I said that this was unacceptable for Transcarpathia. We signed the European Charter for Regional Languages, we have a law on national minorities, we signed the European Framework Convention on National Minorities. It says everywhere that national minorities have the right to study their native language in preschool, primary, secondary and higher educational institutions.
Mrs. Grinevich (ex-Minister of Education of Ukraine, - ed.) did only in preschool and primary. It was necessary to give time to move on - physics, chemistry, geometry - everything was studied in Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak.
I said - why are you aggravating things with Hungary? Hungary is very jealous of its diaspora,” Moskal said.
