Moskal spoke about the role of the Crimean Tatars in Ukraine’s loss of Crimea
Kyiv should have at one time responded to the activities in Crimea of the radical movement Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which advocates the creation of a world caliphate in order to retain Crimea as part of its territory

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Korrespondent” by the Governor of Transcarpathia Gennady Moskal, who in 2006–2007 served as the representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, answering the question why the Crimeans were not afraid of joining Russia.
“There were no anti-Ukrainian ideas there in the mid-2000s - no one tore down flags, everyone stood up when the anthem was played,” says Moskal. Yes, the Crimeans loved Putin, but they lived quietly in Ukraine. And Russia started the split with the Crimean Tatars. I already signaled to the government that banned Islamist groups were appearing in Crimea, their goal was to split the Tatars. The same Tahrir, banned throughout the world, split the Mejlis, wars in the church - everything was done to split, oppose... I don’t know why Viktor Yushchenko was so indifferent to all this. He was only interested in the war with Tymoshenko.”
