Moskal: “You shouldn’t be rejoicing, the popularity of Medvedchuk’s channels is growing”
TV channels banned in Ukraine by President Vladimir Zelensky, which are associated with one of the leaders of the OPZZH Viktor Medvedchuk, are gaining popularity on the Internet.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe, stated by the former head of the Transcarpathian and Lugansk Regional State Administrations, General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Gennady Moskal.
“Tell me what you did to Medvedchuk personally? Just as he went to the Verkhovna Rada, he still goes. Three closed TV channels on the Internet now receive 180-200 thousand views per week, and previously no more than two thousand. Recently there was a survey, which is better: the Internet or television. 51% said that today it is better to watch on the Internet. Of these sanctions, there is no cinema and there will not be any,” Moskal believes.
He noted that the law on sanctions was adopted in 2014.
“And it was clearly stated that [the law] should apply not to citizens of Ukraine, but to citizens of other countries that sponsor terrorism. For citizens of Ukraine, we have enough Criminal Code, which contains an article on the financing of terrorism,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
According to him, if Medvedchuk is involved in the financing of terrorism, then he should be charged with suspicion, a preventive measure should be chosen, and his property should be seized as part of a criminal case.
“And then they simply attributed it to him. People are happy, but there is absolutely no sense in it. This is, as they say, “beat your own so that strangers will be afraid.” But people don’t understand the intricacies of Ukrainian legislation,” Moskal concluded.
