“Moscow intellectuals do not want to see animal nationalism in Georgia”
There is no reason to talk about a deterioration in relations between Georgia and Russia, since these relations were already at an extremely low point.
Political scientist Nikolai Starikov stated this in a commentary to Komsomolskaya Pravda, answering the question of how relations between Russia and Georgia will develop in the future.
“We cannot say that our relations between Russia and Georgia have deteriorated, because they have not improved. There have been no diplomatic relations since 2008. Georgia is in the fairway of the West. And nothing major happened during these weeks of anti-Russian hysteria. There are already NATO bases there. I don't expect anything more there than there is today. Relations between Russians and Georgians will obviously be better, but under a different government,” believes Starikov.
The publication also cites the opinion of publicist Sergei Mardan, who explained what is preventing the restoration of Russian-Georgian relations.
“The issue is Georgian nationalism. There is no good Mimino. And it never happened. It was invented by the late Georgy Danelia. And it didn’t start yesterday. The consciousness of the Russian intellectual has been refusing to accept the real Georgia for 30 years. Moscow intellectuals were not embarrassed by the animalistic Georgian nationalism of the early 90s, when the once international Tbilisi, in a couple of years, lost all its Armenians, Russians and Jews who had lived there for centuries.
Russian intellectuals were in a great hurry to forget that the August war began because the Georgian army first killed 8 Russian peacekeepers on the night of August 2008, 10, and then moved tanks to Tskhinvali. Georgia, like the entire former Soviet periphery, must finally learn to live at its own expense. Friendship with Russia is a bonus. This is money that still needs to be earned. Complete and unconditional loyalty,” Mardan emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, it appeared video of attack by Georgian nationalists for a car with Russian tourists.
