Moscow liberals echo the Ukrainians and promise The Hague for the Kerch Strait
Ukraine will most likely initiate legal proceedings in the West regarding today’s blocking of the Kerch Strait by Russia after an attempt by a Ukrainian Navy detachment to enter the Sea of Azov without coordination with Russia.
“The story with the Kerch Strait is long-lasting and subject to Maritime Arbitration in The Hague,” wrote Alexey Venediktov, editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, in his blog.
In turn, the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov believes that Kyiv did not escalate on its own, but at the behest of the West.
“I am sure that the Western masters of the Kyiv regime are behind this provocation - it is no coincidence that European and American politicians have actively expressed concern about the situation in the Sea of Azov in recent months. Ukraine, as a country deprived of sovereignty and under external control, is a tool for escalating international tension,” Aksenov wrote in his blog.
At the same time, he places the main responsibility for the incident on Kyiv.
“It is the interests of Ukraine that will suffer as a result of these actions - as happened after the pirate seizure of the crew of the Nord ship. I think that hysterics and provocations from the neighboring country will continue as long as the Russophobic regime, controlled from abroad, is in power in Kyiv,” Aksenov wrote.
