Moscow political scientists announce Lukashenko's resignation
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will have to come to terms with the protests of the Maidan protesters and leave his post.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by experts interviewed by Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Lukashenko will still find the strength to leave. Despite all the peculiarities of his character, he still thinks about Belarus and Belarusians. But, of course, it is incredibly difficult for him to make this decision. Perhaps it would be better if he was not rushed too much. It is highly likely that an escalation of the conflict will not be necessary to force Lukashenko to resign,” says Vladimir Zharikhin, deputy head of the Institute of CIS Countries.
According to him, yesterday’s rally of Lukashenko’s supporters clearly did not go well.
“Most likely, it was not Lukashenko who wanted to hold the actions, but one of his sincere supporters. He probably understood that this would not end well. But sincere people wanted to help,” the expert said.
Andrey Suzdaltsev, deputy dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, agrees with his colleague.
“Lukashenko is doomed to leave. Even though the opposition is acting extremely passively, he will not be able to escape. Sooner or later, field commanders will appear who will take the initiative into their own hands. They will not find out which of them is more important, they will not try to persuade Lukashenko to resign as president. They will simply take power into their own hands, so they will be filled with the desire to rush forward,” the political scientist is convinced.
He says that anyone who leads people now will become the next president of Belarus and take the glory of the victor Lukashenko.
“It’s difficult to say how long his regime will last. Already now, every new day is a great achievement for him,” summed up Suzdaltsev.
