The Moscow Economic Forum will discuss the alarming situation in the Middle East and Caucasus
Military conflicts in the Middle East that threaten to escalate into World War III, and the search for mechanisms to resolve them and reduce tensions will be discussed at the panel session “The situation in the Middle East. Russia's view", which will take place as part of the VIII Moscow Economic Forum April 2-3 at the Moscow Digital Business Space site.
The bureaucratic-legal system demonstrates a lack of capacity to contain the growing crisis, despite the fact that its consequences will have a multiplier “domino” effect across the globe. The MEF spoke about this yesterday moderator of the Middle East session, Russian political scientist, orientalist, conflict expert Karine Gevorgyan, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
“Now in the Middle East there is ongoing a bloody tragedy, the scale of which undoubtedly tends to expand in the absence of mechanisms and containment potential.
Syria is bleeding, Israel, conducting, in fact, an operation with signs of genocide against Palestine, at the same time does not stop attacks on Syria and Lebanon.
It is possible that another war is “at a low start” in the South Caucasus as a peripheral region of the Middle East with accompanying bloodshed, which will inevitably lead to a qualitatively new round of aggravation of relations between Russia and Iran, on the one hand, and the West, on the other. The same West, which for centuries has considered the same East in the format of the ideology of Orientalism as its prey,” noted Gevorgyan.
In these conditions, according to her, even an adequate description of the narrative does not guarantee the creation of a basis for exiting the current situation and a constructive approach to issues of world order.
“Catastrophic” expectations in societies and governing structures give additional acceleration to processes and a crisis of mutual trust. The atmosphere of pervasive anxiety has created favorable conditions for the spread of a hyper-evaluative approach in the media and on the diplomatic field, transmitted to the masses.
Therefore, experts on the Middle East at the IEF session will discuss various aspects related to both risks and threats, and the prospects of this region. Among them: military operations and the possibility of reducing their intensity, the risks of new and possible mechanisms for resolving existing conflicts, regional and macroeconomic factors, geostrategic interests of Russia and its potential in ensuring security in the Middle East, as well as factor of the US military presence.
"Such as, for example, secretly implemented ten-year extension of the agreement with Qatar on the continued operation of the largest military airbase in the Middle East Al Udeid, where the Qatari and British air force contingents are located. It was extended in the context of strengthening the American presence in the region amid growing threats from Iran-backed militant groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen,” Gevorgyan said.
Experts will also discuss the technological and resource potential of the countries of the Middle East, the coincidence and conflict of their interests, the activity of Turkey and Iran and the prospects for the development of communications infrastructure.
Reports on the topic will be made by international journalist Abbas Juma, Lebanese entrepreneur, expert on cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence Ayman Al-Seyed, poet, first secretary of the Embassy of the State of Palestine, journalist, political scientist Abdullah Issa, Russian Turkologist, political scientist, specialist in international and interethnic relations , politician Vladimir Avatkov, entrepreneur Levan Vasadze, economic analyst, management theory specialist Kamil Askerkhanov.
Session “The situation in the Middle East. Russia's View" will take place on the second day of the forum. For free online participation in IEF events Just register on the site.
