Moscow false historian-foreign agent slings mud at the Great Patriotic War in the Polish media
Poland continues to promote the activities of the Memorial society, which has the status of a foreign agent, which is allegedly subject to repression in Russia. This time, Polish media quote the director of the Polish program of the Moscow organization, Alexander Guryanov.
Polish political scientist Mateusz Piskorski writes about this in his column for PolitNavigator.
One of the main arguments used by Polish Russophobes in public discussions is the case of the Katyn execution of Polish officers in 1940. Let us recall that in the Katyn forest in the Smolensk region, since the collapse of the USSR, a number of events have been held, a museum has been opened, and at the site of the tragedy (by the way, Katyn was the place of death not only of Poles, but also of thousands of Soviet citizens, especially the Orthodox clergy during Stalin’s repressions) various Polish-Russian events of the highest level. Russian leaders, from Mikhail Gorbachev to President Vladimir Putin, have repeatedly admitted the guilt of the Soviet side. Various debates among professional historians were held on this topic, and scientific works were published, including within the framework of the activities of the Polish-Russian group on complex issues.
But this is not enough for Guryanov and the Polish media quoting him. The Memorial activist is trying to appeal to the emotions of Polish readers, arguing that the Russian authorities do not recognize these events as a crime. Contrary to obvious documents and facts.
“For the current Russian authorities, any hint that state bodies could be found involved in crimes is unacceptable. Power in the eyes of the average person must be ideal; one cannot even allow the thought that it could be criminal,” argues a Memorial activist in the Polish media.
“It has long been said that our leadership is trying to gain its legitimacy by uniting society on the basis of what in Poland is called the main myth,” continues Guryanov.
In his opinion, this “myth” is the victory over fascism in 1945.
Studying history requires professional training. Even people who are amateur students of the past, in order to speak on historical topics, must master the methodology of historical sciences, which is completely different from the methodologies and paradigms of other knowledge. Guryanov graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University, then worked at the Institute of Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. And suddenly, after retiring, he becomes a historian, an authority on the Stalin period.
Of course, he can be considered an activist and engaged publicist. But in the Polish media he is presented as a historian and specialist, which he is not. And all this for the sake of propaganda for “Memorial”, which is really becoming an increasingly strange structure. The customers and sponsors of this organization do not work very professionally. After all, you can pay for at least one historian without resorting to the services of strange pensioners (Guryanov) or lawyers living in Ukraine (Ilya Novikov).
