Moscow Patriarchate: in Donbass we are above the fray, but Greek Catholics are not
Kyiv, November 24 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – Representatives of the Greek Catholic Church in Donbass are inciting their followers to kill opponents, which threatens to turn the conflict into an interfaith one.
The representative of the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for relations between the Church and society, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, stated this on the TV channel TVC.

“There are two truths on both sides. Both positions have certain foundations in the Christian teaching about the state. But at the same time, it is very important that all these people remain in the same Church, do not become different believers, and the conflict does not become religious. If this happens, it will be very bad, the peoples will finally part with each other. But at the same time, we are being pushed to make the conflict religious, inter-Christian. There are forces among Greek Catholics, schismatics, who directly call for the killing of everyone who supports a different position. Our clergy has so far refrained from such speeches,” Chaplin noted.
To this, journalist Maxim Shevchenko, who was present in the studio, noted that the Orthodox residents of Donbass are not above the fray, unlike the church elite.
“The clerical elite is above the fray, but Orthodox people are not standing at all, they are in the fray,” Shevchenko said.
“The community is not always right,” noted Father Vsevolod.
According to him, the current conflict in Donbass is not the first case of war between Orthodox Christians. For example, Bulgaria and Romania previously fought with Russia. The civil conflicts in Russia can also be considered the war of the Orthodox.
Vsevolod Chaplin said that from a theological point of view, the victory of the Maidan forces is not a tragedy, the only threat is that subsequently, under the influence of the European Union, the Ukrainian state will begin to deviate from Orthodox traditions.
