Moscow political scientist wants to give Poland the Russian city of Lviv
Joseph Stalin made a mistake by including Galicia into the Soviet Union after the end of World War II. Political scientist Dmitry Kulikov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavinator correspondent reports.
“I believe that in one decision Stalin was both right and wrong. In 1939, he was right to annex the western regions, because it served the purpose of the defense capability of our country. And in 1945 he was wrong, because they had to be given to Poland.
Because the population that was ours is there (in Galicia - approx. ed.), completely destroyed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1913-1914. And those who survived were cleared out by the Poles in the 1930s.
It’s interesting for me to look at the statistics: the main victims of Bandera were in 1945-1957. Do you think these are the NKVD troops they allegedly fought with? The NKVD troops and the troops in general in this territory had minimal losses.
Massive losses are the residents of these regions, who were the chairmen of collective farms, doctors, teachers, chairmen of village councils - these are those who lived there. And they were destroyed because they were “Muscovite servants,” said Kulikov.
Political scientist Semyon Bagdasarov clarified that, according to official data, 65 thousand civilians, as well as 25 thousand employees of the MGB and the Red Army, died at the hands of Bandera’s supporters in Western Ukraine.
“What is to the west - Galicia - is something that has nothing to do with us. We must understand this personally and never confuse it, as Comrade Stalin once confused it,” Kulikov continued.
