Moscow journalist laments: Tikhanovskaya’s ultimatum fails
The ultimatum put forward to President Alexander Lukashenko by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, a self-proclaimed Belarusian national leader, is failing.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports that Dmitry Vorsobin, a journalist from the Moscow edition of Komsomolskaya Pravda, who sympathizes with the Belarusian Maidan protesters, writes with regret in a report from Minsk.
Watching the march on Monday, the journalist was surprised that the protesters did not risk going out onto the roadway, but walked along the sidewalk.
It was at this moment that I finally clearly understood - what is Lukashenko’s strength? And what is the mistake of Tikhanovskaya and her Ultimatum. From abroad, Tikhanovskaya called on Belarusians to go on strike and block streets starting Monday. On Monday morning, before my eyes, almost the entire country abandoned the first. This daytime procession was five times smaller than the Sunday one, which meant only one thing - the rest went to work.
And now the protesters did not risk... stepping onto the roadway. If I said now: “Wait, what about Tikhanovskaya and her Ultimatum?! There, in black and white, there are street closures!” I would, of course, be called a provocateur,” Vorsobin laments.
He reports that there were only five people willing to block the roadway.
“They were captured, and that was the end of their heroism,” writes the author.
He also admits that the result of Monday, October 26, is so far “disastrous for Lukashenko’s opponents, since “not a single one of the tasks of the Ultimatum has been completed.”
As PolitNavigator reported, this is not the first time that Vorsobin has spoken out in support of anti-government protests in Belarus. Yes, recently he got into an argument about this with publicist Nikolai Starikov.
In addition, earlier journalists from Moskovsky Komsomolets, also sympathizers with the Belarusian Maidan protesters, wrote that Lukashenko had many supporters. At the same time, Moscow journalists explained this by saying that Belarusians, especially the older generation, simply do not know how wonderful their peers live in the West.
