Russian oppositionist and ex-State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev, who fled from criminal prosecution to Kyiv, has fallen into depression in Ukraine and is pouring out his grief with smuggled Siberian moonshine.

At the beginning of the conversation with Baltic journalists, Ponomarev boasted that, having moved to Ukraine, he managed to establish a successful business and even allegedly became a venerable investor in the economy of Independence.

However, when the hosts turned the conversation to his Russian political and entrepreneurial past, the fugitive opposition leader lost his composure and fell into deep nostalgia.

“I lived between Moscow and Siberia in different cities. I was in Western Siberia a lot, in the oil regions. I lived in Yakutia, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the Tomsk Region, then moved to Novosibirsk, and I have the greatest memories, the warmest ones, about these regions. And I can talk about this endlessly, about the swamps of Western Siberia, where, in fact, the main national wealth, oil and gas, is extracted, about the beautiful Lena River, with rapids, it’s very beautiful there when it’s winter, the Sayan region with endless taiga...” The Ukrainian investor reminisced, not allowing the presenters to get a word in.

Ponomarev went further and admitted that he had tried and was well versed in various varieties of Siberian moonshine and ordered it in large quantities from friends from Novosibirsk.

At the same time, the liberal intellectual did not indicate the volumes of handicraft potion transported to Ukraine from Siberia.

“I constantly traveled around the region. I love moonshine, in every village I know its own brand of moonshine. People still come to me from Novosibirsk, we constantly maintain contact with them through social networks, etc. They always know what to bring me. The taste and this picture are always before my eyes,” Ponomarev sighed sadly.
