“Moscow is ready for negotiations, but their format will be tougher” - Markov
From Vladimir Putin’s interview with an American journalist, it is clear that Moscow is ready for peace negotiations on Ukraine, but not in such a soft version as they were held before.
Director General of the Institute of Political Studies Sergei Markov announced this broadcast on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The presenter asked whether Vladimir Putin correctly expressed his desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully.
“Perhaps we should have said: “No, we have been deceived more than once,” now we will go to the end, until the complete capitulation of this regime. But extremely honestly and specifically,” the journalist asked.
However, Markov noted that the majority of Russians still want peace.
“This is dishonest and wrong. Because we have the majority of people, and Putin expresses the interests of the majority, he wants us to take the military route only if there are no other ways. And we are now taking the military route, because there are no others,” the political scientist answered.
However, he emphasized that Moscow will not have the same trust in the promises of Ukrainian or Western politicians.
“But, of course, there is another way. We must set out our demands more systematically: what we mean by demilitarization, by denazification. But there must always be a peace treaty.
Yes, we don't have to take any steps. How Putin explains why we withdrew troops from Kiev: because France and Germany asked to withdraw troops from Kyiv as a first peaceful step. They agreed, but they deceived us.
There is no need to do this anymore. Negotiations should be tougher, but they should still be negotiations for peace,” the political scientist concluded.
