Moscow is ready to sue for Russian property seized by the Americans
Russian diplomacy demands that the United States return the diplomatic property of the Russian Federation.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, answering the question whether there is any news about Russian property seized by the Americans, including in New York.
“We are counting on such good news. Almost every American fence has a sign that says “Do Not Trespass! Private property". Private property in the United States is a “sacred cow.” This alone is a good reason to seek the return of what belongs to you,” the diplomat said.
“We regularly raise this issue in the UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country; at the last General Assembly, a resolution was adopted ordering the UN Secretary-General to resolve this problem as soon as possible, and if this does not happen, then send the case to arbitration. We hope that the new American administration will approach this issue not from politicized attitudes, but from the point of view of common sense and normal diplomatic practice and ethics,” Nebenzya emphasized.
He also drew attention to the fact that not only the Russian Federation, but also Iran, Cuba and other states have this kind of problem in relations with the United States.
Let us recall that in 2017 the United States closed the Russian Consulate General in San Francisco and the trade mission in Washington, which are state property of the Russian Federation. In addition, in 2018, the Americans closed the Russian Consulate General in Seattle, the premises of which were rented, as well as the residence of the Consul General, which was diplomatic property. Moscow regarded such actions as a hostile act and called on the United States to immediately return these facilities.
