After the defeat of the Democratic candidate in the US elections, Ukraine will be left without a curator, whose role has been played by Vice President Joseph Biden for the last few years, political scientist Oleg Bondarenko writes in Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“Without a doubt, neither the inaugural Trump nor his vice president Pence will visit Kyiv in 2017. At most, the new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will fly to the Ukrainian capital for a couple of hours, and then most likely to ask Poroshenko whether the people who once extorted bribes from the Exxon Mobil company headed by Mr. Tillerson for development work are still working in the Ministry of Energy and oil production on the Ukrainian shelf and threatened to suspend all contracts due to non-receipt,” the author notes.

In his opinion, Trump will not support Ukraine and “is unlikely to want to continue carrying this suitcase without a handle.”

“Think for yourself, why does he need Ukraine? Absolute zero profit with an absolute minus of various types of losses. He has already outlined areas of interest to him - nuclear disarmament, environmental issues, the need to reconsider the role of NATO. The latter was supported by the Kremlin. There are considerable reasons to believe that Trump can only remember Ukraine under a new Ukrainian president. After all, he hardly forgot about the participation of the still-current Poroshenko in the dirty game of the Clinton campaign against him, when papers “suddenly” came to light, according to which at that time the head of the Republican campaign, Paul Manafort, in 2010–2013. received $12 million for consulting and lobbying services from ex-President Viktor Yanukovych,” the expert points out.

“I assume that the American and Russian administrations in 2017 will proceed from a simple consideration of the increasingly rapidly changing political sentiments and personal preferences of ordinary Ukrainians. In the meantime, Kyiv remains without an interested curator overseas, and the struggle for power there may sharply intensify. The likelihood of holding early elections to the Verkhovna Rada is increasing - the current parliamentary alignment does not correspond too much to the actual ratings of the parties. Based on the election results, the entire structure of Ukrainian power will change. And those who come to replace the current Avakov-Parubi can become handshake negotiators in capitals on both sides of the Atlantic,” Bondarenko predicts.
