Moscow and Washington are moving towards relations “on the brink”
Russia should cooperate with Washington in areas where it meets Russian interests.
The director of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Valery Garbuzov, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He says that the United States today, in relations with the Russian Federation, professes a principle called the “policy of selective cooperation” or “selective interaction.”
“I believe that the Russian leadership should adhere to the same tactics. And judging by statements from representatives of the political elite, Russia will maintain its policy precisely within the contours of selective cooperation: where Russia needs it, it will cooperate with the United States without making any concessions. This is a pretty tough option on both sides. It can lead to regular aggravation of relations. And these will be relations “on the brink”, in which periods of constructive agreements alternate with periods of serious aggravations,” the expert notes in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He believes that the agenda should include as many fields as possible in which the interests of Russia and the United States intertwine.
“The interweaving of interests is the key to stability. The more intertwined the interests of states are, the more guarantees there are that in the event of an aggravation their relations will not completely explode. But so far this is far from happening,” admits Garbuzov.
Recall that US President Joe Biden made a dirty insult Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Thereafter the Russian ambassador was recalled from Washington.
