Moscow is replacing its ambassador to Belarus with a “serious official who is not afraid to make decisions”
Moscow has decided to appoint a new ambassador to Belarus: instead of Dmitry Mezentsev, 69-year-old Evgeny Lukyanov, who held a similar position in Lithuania, and before that served as Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council and deals with international issues, will go to Minsk.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant reports, citing its diplomatic sources.
It is noteworthy that this is the third ambassador of the Russian Federation to Belarus over the past three years. According to the publication's interlocutors, the candidacy has been agreed upon, and the signing of a presidential decree on his appointment is expected in the near future.
One of his Security Council colleagues, in a conversation with the newspaper, described Lukyanov as “a serious official who is not afraid to make decisions and take responsibility.”
At the same time, he called the army and navy the permanent allies of Russia.
“This is a harsh imperial assessment of Alexander III, but there is no other,” said Lukyanov.
