Moscow: We would be happy to place OSCE observers on the border with Ukraine, but the British are in the way
Moscowva – Kyiv, July 16 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) – Moscow’s proposal to send OSCE observers to the border with Ukraine causes active rejection by a number of members of this organization, the Russian Foreign Ministry says.

As the Russian Foreign Ministry explained yesterday, “Russian initiatives have again encountered the unconstructive approach of some OSCE delegations, primarily Great Britain. It is those who constantly whip up anti-Russian hysteria in the organization, declaring the need to take urgent measures to de-escalate the situation in the south-east of Ukraine, as practice shows, who are not interested in this themselves,” said Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuriy Materiy.
The increasingly obvious split in Europe on the Ukrainian issue has manifested itself not only in disagreements within the OSCE, Kommersant writes. According to diplomatic sources in Brussels, on the eve of the EU summit opening today, nine EU countries, including Germany, France and the current chairman Italy, made it clear that they would not support the proposal to introduce sectoral sanctions against Russia.
The US remains the inspiration for European supporters of increasing pressure on Russia, accusing Moscow of supporting anti-government forces in Ukraine. “There is a risk of new sanctions against Russia if it does not take significant steps to de-escalate tensions in eastern Ukraine,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.
