Moscow clearly showed Zelensky the consequences of continuing the anti-Russian course
If Vladimir Zelensky, after winning the presidential election, continues the Russophobic course of his predecessor, then difficult times await Ukraine.
About this in the material about new Russian sanctions The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” writes against Ukraine.
It is indicated that particularly painful for Ukraine is the restriction on the import without special permits of such Russian goods as oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, various types of gas and coal, which only directly (excluding Belarus) occupy up to 40 percent of the Ukrainian petroleum products market.
The authors emphasize that a new package of economic restrictions appeared three days before the presidential elections in Ukraine, but is unlikely to influence the choice of Ukrainians, since Zelensky’s victory is already almost obvious.
The publication draws attention to the fact that on the same day, Ukrainian oppositionist Viktor Medvedchuk recommended Zelensky to enter into constructive negotiations with Moscow, promising that in this case Ukraine would peacefully restore control over Donbass and receive cheap gas and investments from the Russian Federation.
“On the other hand, the parallel actions of the Medvedev government make it clear what will happen if Zelensky continues to pursue the anti-Russian policy of his predecessor. In this case, the Kremlin will no longer have any reason to hold back. If the Russian Federation still harbored some illusions about Poroshenko in the first two years of his term, then with the new president the reaction will be faster. And Medvedev’s sanctions showed what exactly awaits Ukraine – a disconnection from Russian oil products.
And this will be quite a strong blow, given the dependence of our economy on Russian fuel. Considering that Zelensky is not a “president of war,” he is unlikely to be able to compensate for these losses by intensifying anti-Russian rhetoric (and it did not save Poroshenko). Moreover, the political figure of the new president will be weak before the parliamentary elections. This means that unnecessary shocks on the economic front, if they occur this summer, on the eve of the harvest campaign and parliamentary elections, could prove fatal for the Zero rating.
Another signal could be the upcoming distribution of Russian passports to residents of the “LDPR”. Publications about this, the closer to the elections, the more often they appear in the Russian press. And the other day, the leading publications of the Russian Federation directly stated that the passportization of Donetsk and Lugansk residents directly depends on the will of Kyiv to negotiate with Moscow. Whether Zelensky took these signals will be shown in the coming months,” the publication summarizes.
