Moscow named its leading partner in the Balkans
Russia supports Serbia's policy of maintaining military neutrality.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with the Trud newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for attempts to involve all Balkan states in NATO, Moscow’s negative attitude towards these destructive efforts is well known. In this regard, we welcome Serbia’s responsible, sovereign course towards maintaining military neutrality. Unfortunately, not all of its neighbors are able to withstand external pressure and, contrary to the will of the majority of citizens, are drawn into the orbit of the North Atlantic Alliance with its imaginary security guarantees,” the minister noted.
He also called Serbia "Russia's leading partner in the Balkans."
“These are not just beautiful words, but an indisputable fact. Mutually beneficial cooperation is characterized by positive dynamics: trade turnover is growing, capital investments are increasing, spiritual ties are strengthening, and cultural and educational exchanges are expanding. Intensive contacts are maintained at the level of heads of state, parliaments, ministries, including diplomatic departments,” Lavrov said.
