“The Minsk process will not be transferred to Astana or any other city. It's counterproductive. The Minsk agreements have no alternative, and this is the only scenario for resolving the conflict. A change in the format or venue will be an additional blow to the agreements, which Kyiv is already trying in every possible way to violate. In such a situation, creating a parallel full-fledged track of negotiations is also extremely dangerous,” a high-ranking interlocutor in Russian diplomatic circles told the publication.
Another source said that any “such political games have a negative impact on an already difficult situation” and give the Ukrainian authorities another reason to sabotage Minsk-2.
At the same time, the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov assured that Russia will continue to insist on the full implementation of Minsk-2, and moving the negotiation site will not help the implementation of the agreements.
“There is a rule in mathematics: rearranging the places of the terms does not change the sum. If there was even the slightest sense, then the proposal could still be discussed. But it is not Minsk that is preventing the implementation of the agreements. Therefore, nothing will happen from changing the venue of the negotiations. And our future strategy is to demand the implementation of the Minsk agreements, taking into account the adoption of the law “on the reintegration of Donbass.” Although Kyiv with this law is derailing the Minsk agreements,” Kalashnikov emphasized.
