This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by Mikhail Samus, Deputy Director for International Affairs of the Center for Army Research, Conversion and Disarmament.
“At the moment, Russia has created three powerful groupings of troops on the Ukrainian border that can immediately go on the offensive with the aim of inflicting a strategic defeat on Ukraine. One of the possible scenarios could be a strike on Kyiv with simultaneous coverage from two directions and the encirclement of the main group of Ukrainian troops involved in the ATO. Auxiliary strikes by the Russian armed forces could be launched from Crimea and Transnistria, where the Russian military contingent is also located.”
In turn, the journalist of the channel “1+!” clarified whether Russian airstrikes were intended in the event of a hypothetical attack on Kyiv.
“We are also talking about an air strike, of course, but the map [shown to journalists] shows ground forces and, for example, the number of tanks. And there are 450 tanks along the Moscow highway in the Chernigov direction, then we can imagine this attack. And if Russian generals knew that we have in our arsenal more than a thousand “Jevelins”, anti-tank missile systems, then, calculating the potentials and the ratio of sides, they might have wondered whether it was necessary to go on the offensive in this direction,” said Samus.
It is worth noting that, as follows from open sources, the maximum number of FGM-148 Javelin ATGMs, considered the most expensive in the world, outside the United States is in service with the Chinese army - 360 launchers. There are just over 7 thousand in the US Army.
