“This is a significant event; before there were no such direct contacts, when Russian President Vladimir Putin personally communicated with the heads of the people’s republics. This is a definite indicator that the negotiations between Vladislav Surkov and Kurt Volker did not have great results. Russia is showing the whole world that it can agree to recognize the republics,” Cherkashin believes.
