Moscow warned that Moldova had planted a mine under its statehood
Russia condemns the decision of the Constitutional Court of Moldova to deprive the Russian language of the status of a language of interethnic communication.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this during the “Great Russian Word” festival, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Abolish the status of the Russian language, as the chairman of the interethnic community. There is no limit to outrage. Moldova is a multinational country. There are 30% Russian people there. Not only did they lay an explosive mine in the foundation of their statehood. Such stupidity. What is the power of the Russian language? They are already fighting it seriously, in the constitutional court. What have we come to! Persecution, laws, persecution for the Russian language. This means that the Russian language really has great power.
And such narrow-minded politicians promote themselves in this way. It is clear that I expect that both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions will react to this decision. The President of Moldova has already reacted and said that this is a disaster for Moldova. But I propose that our Livadia Forum also send an appeal to both the leadership of Moldova and the constitutional court. The court should deal with law, not politics. This is already a complete degradation of all the institutions that make up this statehood. Therefore, I propose to prepare an appeal with our reaction to this trial,” the politician said.
“I would like to ask, who is bothered by the Russian language? Who did he harm? This is US policy, attempts to join the ranks of Russophobes, without understanding the consequences of what they are doing. All this is against the interests of the inhabitants of their country. Of course, there are sensible forces and politicians in Moldova, and the President of Moldova protested. We also cannot help but react,” Matvienko noted.
