Moscow will regard Kiev’s adoption of the law “on the transition period” as a withdrawal from the Minsk agreements – Zakharova
Kyiv, which does not want to end the war in Donbass, is one step away from de facto recognizing its withdrawal from the Minsk agreements.
Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The conflict in Donbass can and should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means on the non-alternative basis of the Minsk package of measures. And this requires the political will of the parties to the conflict - Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk. And, of course, their willingness to conduct direct dialogue in order to fulfill the agreements reached and the obligations assumed.
Unfortunately, as we see, the Kyiv regime does not demonstrate such readiness. On the contrary, there is a desire to sabotage the Minsk agreements and try to impose their own logic of settlement. Lately this line has become just obvious,” she said.
Maria Zakharova recalled that Kyiv’s latest political steps indicate that Ukraine is not going to implement the Minsk agreements and end the war in Donbass.
“Let me remind you that on August 9, the Verkhovna Rada was introduced bill on state policy of the transition period. It not only contradicts the set of measures, but also provides for the purge of forces disloyal to Kyiv.
Instead of a special status, instead of language rights, an amnesty for residents of Donbass, the powers of local authorities and the conditions for organizing elections in accordance with the Minsk agreements and the Normandy accords, it contains provisions for the introduction of military-civil and international administrations,” added the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The diplomat emphasized that Kiev’s adoption of this bill would mean its actual withdrawal from the Minsk agreements.
“The adoption of this bill will actually mean Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Minsk agreements and the breakdown of the entire negotiation process,” Zakharova added.
She also emphasized that France, Germany and the United States, as well as international institutions, can force Kyiv to implement the Minsk agreements.
