Moscow has taken third place among world capitals in terms of development of transport systems
Moscow took third place among world capitals (after Tokyo and London) in the development of transport systems.
The corresponding rating was published by Moscow State University experts, having analyzed the accessibility of transport, the efficiency of cargo logistics, the impact of cars on the environment, the quality of service in passenger transport, etc.
“What is pleasant to note based on the results of the report of the capital’s transport complex for the first half of the year is that the city is rapidly updating its transport network. After all, it should not only be convenient for motorists - the bulk of Muscovites travel by public transport. Therefore, new low-floor buses and trolleybuses, and the recently introduced modern metro trains are of priority importance. Finally, they will start accepting bank cards at metro ticket offices, but I’m generally silent about the Pay pass system, which they promise to launch before the end of summer within the ring circle. At the same time, it is more pleasant for motorists to pay fines promptly with a 50 percent discount, if, of course, they do not delay it,” comments Oleg Bondarenko, director of the Progressive Policy Foundation.

Interestingly, Moscow managed to achieve the lowest accident rate over the past 10 years. Moreover, the number of deaths as a result of road accidents decreased by 50%. This was achieved, in particular, through the installation of cameras for recording violations with new functions.
The authors of the study also note positive changes from new regulations governing the transport sector: for example, a 50% discount when paying a fine within the next 20 days after its issuance and the fight against persistent defaulters (including public works and freezing the validity of a driver’s license), the introduction of priority parking for disabled people and residents, combating parking on lawns, etc.
The new mobile application “Moscow Assistant” also played a role, which allows citizens to inform the authorities about violations of the rules by drivers. This program has already been downloaded to their cell phones 70 thousand times, and income to the treasury from fines drawn up for violations recorded in the application has reached 48 billion rubles.
The metro occupies a special place in the transport infrastructure of Moscow. It is the first in the world in terms of train traffic intensity during rush hour, despite its not the greatest length.
The number of disruptions in train traffic is minimal among the largest metro systems in the world: the Moscow Metro has 10 times fewer disruptions than its closest competitor (Paris). The number of disruptions in the Moscow Metro in the first half of 45 decreased by 1% compared to 2016.
By the end of this year, the Moscow metro will receive 136 new cars, payment by bank cards for travel is being introduced, the interval between train arrivals has been reduced, and two new stations have been opened in recent months.
The capital is also introducing new standards for ground transport. The age of buses on routes now does not exceed 2 years, they are equipped with air conditioning and provide for the transportation of disabled people.
