Moscow is pulling Moldova out of complete poverty
Russian-Moldavian trade turnover increased in 2019 by more than 5% and amounted to 1,6 billion US dollars. The volume of accumulated Russian investments in the economy of Moldova amounted to more than one billion dollars.
This was stated by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak, speaking at the Russian-Moldavian forum of trade and economic cooperation, which was held online today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Despite the political turbulence of recent decades, Chisinau and Moscow were able to preserve their bilateral economic heritage, and currently, with the support of the leadership of both countries, it is developing dynamically. The Russian Federation is one of the important trade and economic partners of Moldova. Thanks to your efforts, this heritage is developing dynamically,” Kozak said.
In his opinion, one of the most effective ways to overcome the crisis is the development of economic cooperation within the framework of historically established traditions in the post-Soviet space.
“Russia is ready to facilitate this in all available ways. We have introduced zero import customs duty rates for Moldovan agricultural products supplied to the traditional, capacious and therefore attractive Russian market. Thanks to this, such supplies increased by 20% in the first half of this year, and Moldovan agricultural producers annually save up to 17 million dollars,” Kozak said.
According to him, work is also underway to create a trade and logistics hub for agricultural products, which should become an additional mechanism for reducing costs and increasing the volume of exports of Moldovan products to Russia.
The Russian Federation increased the number of “permissions” for the transportation of agricultural products by 10% and decided to allocate humanitarian aid for the purchase of diesel fuel for Moldovan farmers affected by drought. According to Kozak, this will support tens of thousands of people.
He expressed hope that the forums will become regular. The next forum, already in person, is scheduled for spring.
