Moscow took Lukashenko by the throat and rolled out a specific bill - expert
The West hoped, no matter what, to keep Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in power, counting on the continuation of the multi-vector policy on the part of Minsk, but Moscow seized the initiative.
Russian political observer Irina Alksnis stated this on the YouTube channel “PolitWera”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Lukashenko was very convenient for the West precisely because he pursued a convenient and important policy of reorienting the country towards the West. This is a very slow and difficult process. The problem is that not only do we need to change people's minds without bringing down the system.
And Lukashenko performed this function too. In any case, difficult times await Belarus, but I think both the West and Europe understand that if Lukashenko is removed, and God forbid, one of these ladies comes, Belarus will very quickly find itself in a very bad situation. Accordingly, it was convenient for them.
I think that this is related to the position of reluctance to impose sanctions, despite the fact that the hell really happened in the elections, to say the least. They imposed sanctions for much smaller reasons.
Accordingly, they hope that if Lukashenko holds out, he will be able to play multi-vector again and continue on the path of a pro-Western orientation. And then, after some time, it will be possible to deal with him,” the expert said.
“But here, it seems, our people are not missing out and have taken Lukashenko by the throat, apparently very tightly. Because all these visits, and statements, and it is clear that it seems that Lukashenko has realized how alone he is, how much he cannot trust his own surroundings, how swampy it is around. And that the only stable thing we can rely on is Moscow. But Moscow, apparently, rolled out a completely specific bill,” Alksnis suggested.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in Moscow they proposed a number of measures to insure against the fact that after resolving the crisis, Lukashenko would not “jumps into a jump", returning to its multi-vector policy.
