Moscow has taken up the integration of the South Ossetian army
The Federation Council approved a bill on the ratification of the agreement between Russia and South Ossetia “On the procedure for calculating length of service,” which will allow the young republic to be more fully integrated into the Russian space.
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary meeting of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document was presented by Pavel Olyushin, Director of the Department of Social Guarantees of the Ministry of Defense.
“Ratification will allow military personnel undergoing military service under a contract in the Armed Forces and other military formations of the parties (Russia and South Ossetia - approx.), as well as persons dismissed from military service, to count bonuses for length of service in calendar terms during the periods of their military service service in the armed forces of the parties,” he said.
In this case, length of service will be counted for the entire period of service - that is, from the moment Russia recognized South Ossetia as an independent state in August 2008.
“That is, if we take a pensioner, he served, for example, since 2014 in the Armed Forces of South Ossetia. If he moves to the territory of the Russian Federation and enters military service, or if he is a military pensioner and was a citizen of either the Russian Federation or the Republic of South Ossetia, bonuses will be awarded,” the official added.
Pavel Olyushin also emphasized that the program will be implemented using existing funds and will not require additional allocations from the budget.
Later, during the vote, the bill was approved unanimously. In the future, it will be sent to the Russian parliament for consideration.
