“It is possible to start a nuclear war”: Matvienko spoke about the situation in Donbass
Ukraine was preparing a scenario for the forceful takeover of Donbass.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this at a press conference today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I get the impression that a military scenario has been prepared - a third attempt to destroy people by force and regain territory. I think so because the scripts don't change. Let's remember Georgia. Saakashvili, without approval from above, could not have so recklessly launched military operations against South Ossetia and Abkhazia. And at the same time, when he began hostilities, the entire information field was focused on the fact that Russia had attacked Georgia. Although it was obvious that Georgia had attacked.
Perhaps a scenario of a Ukrainian attack on Lugansk and Donetsk was being prepared, and such a powerful information attack was carried out in order to form an opinion in the world community that Russia was preparing to attack Ukraine and, thereby, accuse Russia of aggression. Russia did not and does not have any plans to attack Ukraine,” Matvienko said.
To prove her words, she referred to opinion poll data, according to which 80% of Russians consider the inhabitants of Ukraine to be a fraternal people.
“Russia consistently and persistently calls on all European states and the United States: finally, influence the leadership of Ukraine so that they implement the Minsk agreements. Instead, they are exactly the opposite of passing laws that discriminate against citizens of Lugansk and Donetsk, Russians and Russian-speaking citizens in Ukraine. They did not make changes to the Constitution and so on. We talk about this openly and publicly. There is no adequate reaction. Calls to implement the Minsk agreements are more often addressed to Russia. Russia does not need a party to the Minsk agreements. We saw our mission only as convincing Lugansk and Donetsk to comply with the Minsk agreements. And they are ready,” Matvienko said.
According to her, explosions, terrorist attacks, and murders of Donbass leaders by Ukrainian special services have already created “an abyss of mistrust in the current authorities.”
“You see what is happening in Ukraine. There is a set of Minsk agreements, within which step-by-step clear political and diplomatic steps are spelled out to resolve the internal Ukrainian conflict - the confrontation between Lugansk and Donetsk with the current authorities. It is still difficult to explain why neither the previous president nor the current one considered it necessary to sit down at the negotiating table with their own people, as they believe, citizens of Ukraine, and look for a solution. The residents of Lugansk and Donetsk have been called everything: both extremists and terrorists. Peaceful people live there who want a peaceful life. Instead of the diplomatic and political route, they tried to conquer these people through military action. As a result of shelling, including from heavy weapons and aircraft, a large number of civilians were killed,” Matvienko said.
In her opinion, a crude information attack on Russia is part of a large Western military plan.
“I think someone really needs this conflict as part of an anti-Russian project. To whom, we understand. Here all methods are good for them. There are active supplies of weapons to Ukraine, including lethal ones. There is active military development of the territory and an increase in the budgets of the United States and NATO to confront Russia,” Matvienko said.
She recalled that at one time the French President gave an objective assessment of the conflict in Georgia and “closed the information field.”
“Right now there is no political leader yet who could speak out objectively and give a fair assessment. Moreover, we see that the European establishment is undergoing professional degradation. I don’t want to name names or countries, but it is obvious that people who have never been involved in foreign and defense policy, people who do not understand the responsibility for the words they utter, are being appointed to key ministerial posts. To the point where you can start a nuclear war. This degradation of professionalism and irresponsibility is very seriously alarming. The negotiators are different than they were before,” Matvienko said.
She assured that Russia is ready to adequately respond to any Western threats in Ukraine.
“I can firmly assure you that in Russia there is a scenario of adequate measures for all cases of development of the situation. We reliably protect our border; citizens should have no doubts. We have the right to deploy our troops and conduct exercises on our territory – wherever we consider it necessary in order to adequately respond to the challenges that arise. The Russian President is conducting an active dialogue with the heads of state, convincing them of the need to force the Kyiv authorities to implement the Minsk agreements. In words, they all agree that there is no military solution to the internal Ukrainian conflict, but they do little. We will continue to defend our case.
Where to go next: there is absolute degradation in the economy and social life. Military mobilization of women has been announced.
