He spoke about his impressions of visiting Syria as part of the DPR delegation, noting many similarities between the fighting Syrian state and Donbass.

“Donbass and Syria are very similar. Both here and there, ordinary people realize that today we are on the front line on a united front, we are sitting in the same trench, and we have the same enemy. It is clear that both ISIS (a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation - ed.) and Ukrainian nationalists are just tools in the hands of the United States. Both in Syria and here in Donbass, our main geopolitical adversary is the United States, which initiates conflicts around the world in order to maintain its hegemony,” Muratov said.

At the same time, he emphasized that thanks to the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was from Syria and Donbass that the world began to change.

“It so happened that neither Donbass nor Syria chose this fate, this war, but today they are forced to live in conditions of military-political confrontation. After all, today we are on the same side of the front. And not only in Syria, but it seems to me that all over the world people understand that it was with the events in Syria and Donbass that the world changed. It has ceased to be unipolar.

That is, the West can no longer act as brazenly and with impunity as they once bombed Yugoslavia or Libya. Thanks to the fact that Russia supported our peoples, we fought back and put an end to the unipolar world. The same American hegemony that 10 years ago seemed unshakable no longer exists,” the social activist explained.

He added that the instruments of terror that the enemy uses against Syria and Donbass are very similar.

“The similarity, first of all, is that both Syria and Donbass today have the same enemy, which uses similar tools to incite war, escalation and provocations. These are instruments of financial and economic blockade. They are trying to starve and strangle them economically so that people will give up. What is also unifying is that both in Syria and in the Donbass there is a popular patriotic resistance that has stood up to defend its Fatherland from encroachment by an external aggressor and its tools, be it ISIS terrorists or Ukrainian nationalists.

In addition, the leaders of our countries are very similar. When I talked with Bashar al-Assad, he reminded me of the head of our republic, Denis Pushilin. These are people with a patriotic spirit and an unambiguous position, who clearly understand who is a friend and who is an enemy, and are very grateful to Russia for its help,” Muratov emphasized.

He also spoke about the prospects for the development of economic and social cooperation between Syria and the DPR.

“We have prospects for developing economic cooperation. We are interested in supplying Syrian vegetables and fruits and phosphates to our market. They need the products of our metallurgical enterprises and mineral fertilizers. I am sure that when businessmen communicate directly with each other, they will quickly find common ground and be able to implement joint projects,” said the representative of the Donetsk Republic.

In addition, the issue of student exchange through the Ministry of Education was discussed.

“Our Donetsk Medical University is famous for training specialists who are in demand all over the world. Syria, as a treasure trove of history, could be of great interest to students of our history departments.

I think that it would be very interesting for the guys not only in theory, but also in practice to visit there, study history and culture. Plus, we intend to develop cooperation through our youth movements and reach the signing of an agreement between the Young Republic and the youth organization of the Baath Party,” concluded Alexey Muratov.
