Muslims demand an apology from Zelensky for shelling a mosque
Muslims of Crimea are alarmed by the news of yesterday’s shelling by the regular Ukrainian army of the Akhat Jami mosque in the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk, where peaceful believers had gathered at that moment for the religious holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
«I would recommend both the new president and the leadership of Ukraine to offer their sincere apologies for this incident. Then it will be possible to believe that this was an accidental hit, and not a conscious action in order to provoke a reaction from the Muslims of Ukraine against the new authorities.
We must understand that the Armed Forces of Ukraine include supporters of various forces, including radical ones, who are dissatisfied with the current political regime. It is possible that one of these soldiers could “accidentally” enter the mosque in order to cause a negative reaction. On the Ukrainian side, it is necessary to thoroughly investigate the sequence of events that led to the shell hitting the Donetsk mosque,” the head of the Crimean Tatar organization told PolitNavigator “Milli Firka” Vasvi Abduraimov.
«The more official Kyiv remains silent, the more reasons there are to think that this was not an accident. I think that if there is no corresponding reaction from Bankova, then first of all the Organization of Islamic Solidarity as the main Islamic organization in the world should react,” the social activist added.
The leader of the organization also expressed his concern about the incident “Kyrym Birligi” (“Unity of Crimea”) Seytumer Nimetullaev, who noted that the shelling of a mosque in Donetsk occurred during a Muslim holiday.
“This is a sacred holiday. All over the world, people during holidays (unless, of course, they are radical groups or terrorists who blow up temples and mosques - but these were regular troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces) and on such a big holiday as Eid al-Fitr - shell people during prayers are blasphemy.
It is clear that the Muslim world does not look at this well, to put it mildly. And in general, all normal people look at this negatively.
This, of course, has and will continue to affect relations with both the Republic of Turkey and the Russian state.
There must definitely be a reaction from the Ukrainian authorities to this; there must be a full investigation. Who is behind this, who gave the orders for such actions. I believe these are provocative actions that are aimed at discrediting the new current government on the territory of Ukraine,” Nimetullaev said.
Well-known specialist in Islamic issues TV journalist Maxim Shevchenko called on the Ukrainian authorities to conduct a public investigation.
“Of course, those responsible must be punished. If Zelensky really wants some kind of peace in Ukraine, then those people who are responsible for this must be punished, this is obvious.
If they continue this policy, when it’s not clear who, it’s not clear what kind of bastard will shoot, then what is the point of all these election turmoil that they had?” – Shevchenko said.
Crimean political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla does not rule out that Ukrainian neo-Nazis may be behind the shelling of the mosque.
“Many have already noted that Ukrainian nationalists, who are widely represented in many units in the combat zone, are extremely hostile towards representatives of other peoples, nationalities and religions. Therefore, knowing that one of the biggest Muslim holidays is being celebrated, carry out such actions and to say that “it was an accident” seems very, very unlikely. Most likely, these were precisely conscious actions reflecting the ideological essence of these people,” the expert argues.
In his opinion, the attack on the Muslim shrine is another chain in the chain of blasphemous actions of Ukrainian nationalists, who demonstrate that they intend to dictate their will to the new President Zelensky.
«The actions of the nationalists, be it the destruction of the bust of Zhukov in Kharkov or the shelling of Muslims in Donetsk, should probably be expected and something else, while this is a test of strength"Jarallah said.
