About it he stated in an interview with the Ukrainian television program “A Question of National Security.”
“I will say right away that many people who say that this problem can be solved diplomatically are, to say the least, deeply mistaken. Nobody believes that Russia will apologize and leave. This will not happen. In any case, what is happening now will sooner or later have to move into a more serious phase, because they will have to decide on it. They will either fight, or in fact, they will have to apologize and go home. This is unlikely. So, most likely, they will fight. And when all this falls on us, we will have to survive,” Akaev is sure.
Akaev confirmed that the Muslim battalion is being “trained” for a campaign in Crimea and the main base of deployment of the unit in this regard will be Kherson.
“There will be a link to Crimea in any case. Because our task is to return Crimea to Ukraine. Restore what was. I think until we achieve this, we will not stop. For this purpose, everything is collected and created. Everyone who is among us joins us, everyone’s thought is to return home, restore justice,” he said.
According to Isa Akayev, today the “Crimea” battalion has already decided on its specialization and numerical strength.
“It seems like we have decided on our specialization. Because all this time we were engaged in reconnaissance and sabotage work. We will remain in this “specialization”. The issue with the part number is still open - we haven’t decided yet. Most likely, this will be a separate reconnaissance battalion, which will report directly to the Chief of the General Staff. It will be 400 to 500 people maximum.”
Also, according to Akaev, not only Muslims and former Crimeans will serve in the battalion, but also fighters from other volunteer battalions and demobilized from the Armed Forces of Ukraine from other regions.
“The bulk will be Muslims, but we are not driving away non-Muslims. And we don’t tell them not to come to us. Many people want it because they heard about our battalion, someone crossed paths with us when we fought together. Some had already been demobilized from the Armed Forces, but found out that we were forming, were legalized and they were ready to serve with us on a contract basis,” says the battalion commander.
When asked by a journalist about when, in his opinion, Ukraine will return Crimea, the battalion commander replied that this could happen in a year.
“I can't say when. Not everything depends on me. I imagine that in any case it will be armed liberation. I think we will have to wait another year. In a year or so, the reverse will begin. It will be more difficult for Russia to fight, although it is quite strong.
Today the Ukrainian army is fighting quite well. It can withstand an enemy who has much more combat experience than us. The main thing for us is patience to endure, and mutual understanding among ourselves,” said Isa Akaev.
As PolitNavigator reported, Recently, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided that the volunteer Crimean Tatar unit “Crimea” under the command of Isa Akayev will become part of the Ukrainian army and will become the first Muslim battalion in its composition. But, according to the battalion commander, fighters of other religions will also serve in it, united by the idea of conquering Crimea from Russia.
