Very soon, on February 24, parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova, which could radically change the balance of power in the republic. The favorite of public sympathy is the opposition Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM), focusing on President Igor Dodon. He really needs a victory for the socialists, because only then will the Moldovan president gain real powers, which are so far concentrated in the pro-Western parliamentary majority. If successful in the elections, Dodon’s associates undertake to annul all decisions made by representatives of the Democratic Party, which led to a deterioration in the republic’s relations with Russia.

Thus, representatives of the PSRM announced their intention to repeal the law on anti-Russian propaganda and adopt a new law on languages, as well as do everything necessary for rapprochement with Russia - including the integration of Moldova into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Judging by the decisive attitude of politicians and voters, the people of Moldova are not only fed up with the mess loudly called “democracy”, but have also drawn certain conclusions for themselves by observing the behavior of their Ukrainian neighbor, who is walking the right path of self-destruction based on clinical Russophobia.

Interestingly, American sociologists from the International Republican Institute (IRI) came to the same conclusions: the people of Moldova are tired of the ruling regime of the pro-Western coalition in parliament.

The current authorities in Chisinau do not suit Moscow and even the West for obvious reasons: endemic corruption and degrading socio-political relations within the country.

In addition to the socialists, the opponent of the current regime is the right-wing liberal bloc ACUM, which has the support of the West. According to experts, the coalition of socialists and right-wing liberals in the new Moldovan parliament has every chance of becoming the ruling one, displacing the thieving “democrats” from key posts in the republic.

The ruling Democratic Party, fueled by the money of the main oligarch of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc, and administrative resources, can count on about a quarter of the mandates in the new parliament. Plahotniuc, however, is clearly not happy with the prospect of his pocket party going into opposition, not to mention the repeal of anti-Russian laws.

At first glance, the ruling regime is doomed. But, apparently, Plahotniuc intends to carry out “Plan B”, pushing the Shor party into the Moldovan parliament.

The leader of the Shor party is a unique person and a kinder surprise, Ilan Shor, the son of Chisinau repatriates, a native of Israel. A fairly well-known (and not only in Moldova) businessman with extensive connections in Russia, Israel and even Kyrgyzstan, married to the Russian pop singer Jasmine.

In the Moldovan media, Ilan Shor has recently often been called a “pro-Russian politician.” From long and sad experience it is known that having come to power, all these “pro-Russian” very quickly change their shoes, revealing a shaggy anti-Russian mug.

Perhaps businessman Shor and his party of the same name are not like that, they are slandering a respected person?

We must start, apparently, with the fact that in 2015 Shor was banned from entering Russia for a period of 6 years. According to some reports, the reason for the ban was the financial fraud of a “pro-Russian politician”, which caused damage to several Russian banks. Immediately after Shor was declared prohibited from entry, state-owned Moldovan anti-corruption fighters seized on him.

In the summer of 2017, a Chisinau court sentenced a “respected man” to 7,5 years in prison for financial fraud. Plahotniuc’s “New Hope” is accused of the “crime of the century” - withdrawing a tidy sum of 1 billion euros from three Moldovan banks in the fall of 2014, on the eve of the parliamentary elections. For a moment: Ilan Shor stole from the republic (at that time) an amount equivalent to 12% of GDP.

It took the scammers only a few days to carry out the scam, during which banks, using the principle of a financial carousel, provided loans to companies owned by Shor. These funds were then transferred to the Latvian bank accounts of companies from the UK and Hong Kong. The simplicity and elegance of the fraud was explained by the fact that all the robbed banks at the time of the scam were associated with Ilan Shor, who served as chairman of the board of directors of Banca de Economii, and was also a major shareholder of Banca Sociala and Unibank.

As the independent detective agency Kroll (involved in 1992 by Yegorka Gaidar in the investigation of the disappearance of the “party gold”), hired by the National Bank of Moldova to investigate the fraud, found out, the cash-in-transit vehicle that was found burnt, in which the documents of the robbed Vans de Economii were transported, belonged to the security agency Klassika Force of Ilan Shor . The Kroll report also mentions that Ilan Shor is a key figure in bank fraud.

In June 2016, the schemer was detained for 72 hours for questioning at the National Anti-Corruption Center, and was even placed under house arrest. However, the scoundrel still manages to avoid a prison term by filing a confession and receiving the protection of the Criminal Code and the status of a witness. Shor recklessly gives interviews to the press, talking about his “fruitful cooperation with the investigation” and even about “exaggerating the amount of bank theft.” Recently, the schemer has even declared his supposed innocence in the “crime of the century.”

Based on Shor’s testimony, his accomplice and participant in other corruption scandals, former Prime Minister of Moldova Vlad Filat, who grabbed “hundreds of millions of dollars,” went to jail for 9 years.

In general, the personality of Ilan Shor is revealed as an extremely slippery, unprincipled and phenomenal thief. And with such happiness, yes to politics: in June 2015, when Shor was serving house arrest, he managed to win the mayoral elections of the city of Orhei in the first round, gaining a stunning 62% of the vote.

Now, supported by Plahotniuc, the swindler is rushing into parliament, hoping to grab the passing 6% of the votes and ensure parliamentary immunity for himself. The victory of the socialists in the elections will certainly mean for Shor the illusory prospect of ending up in a bunk next to Filat in a prison cell.

According to observers, if elections to the Moldovan parliament were held this coming weekend, Shor and his party would have every chance of overcoming the 6% threshold and winning in two electoral districts in the city of Orhei.

Apparently, optimistic forecasts and support from the main oligarch of Moldova gave confidence to the thief Shor, who suddenly emerged with a bunch of accusations against President Igor Dodon.

Thus, Shor assures the press that he is closely acquainted with Dodon, financed his presidential campaign with his capital, and even provided the president with some pleasant services, such as attending a football match in Monaco on a private plane.

The accusations were picked up by the Democratic Party leadership of parliament with promises to look into it. Dodon himself claims that he met with Shor several times and attended some events on his personal plane, but at that time he was not in public service.

In response to Shor’s accusations, Dodon called him “a politician with low social responsibility, who does not even do small things without the permission of the Democratic Party and its leader Vlad Plahotniuc.”

Summarizing.

Undoubtedly, the ban on the appearance in Russia of such odious figures as Ilan Shor is not only justified, but also necessary. Russia will only benefit if Shor's new house in the Moscow region remains empty, and business in Russia changes hands to cover losses for bank fraud. All that remains is to convince Moldovan voters not to succumb to the promises of a hardened swindler to “do good,” “lead to prosperity,” and “attract investment.” As Gleb Zheglov said, “a thief should be in prison!”

If Moldovan voters really want to help their country make a sharp turn away from the suicidal course of Plahotniuc’s “democrats” towards Russia, they need to take into account the signal that Shor is not a friend of Russia. Not allowing this impudent bug to enter parliament means helping healthy political forces come to power in Chisinau and getting a chance for a decent future.
