A man poured paint on a flagpole near the Kyiv City Hall
During the celebrations on the occasion of the so-called. On the “Independence Day of Ukraine” in Kyiv, a man poured red paint on himself, as well as on the steps and pedestal with the Ukrainian flag right under the building of the capital’s mayor’s office. For Ukrainian independence activists, this is one of the sacred places, since even before the collapse of the Soviet Union, separatists illegally removed the red banner from the flagpole and replaced it with a blue and yellow banner.
The incident occurred immediately after the completion of official events in honor of Independence Day. An unknown half-naked man, spreading a white sheet near a pedestal with a Ukrainian flag, doused himself with a bucket of red paint, and then knelt down.
The police detained the offender, who turned out to be a resident of the Zaporozhye region, born in 1987. He explained his actions by saying that he wanted to attract public attention.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detainee under Part 1 of Art. 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Let us recall that a few hours earlier in Kyiv, at a parade in honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day, a man, right in the crowd of spectators, tried to commit an act self-immolation.
